Assignment Task
Task
For this final writing project, you will write an analytical review of a film. You will take what you have learned analyzing a space and analyzing a television show, and you will apply it to a film review. This means that you will not simply provide plot summary followed by an arbitrary assessment of the film’s quality. Instead, you will determine criteria – what specific components make the film successful and unsuccessful (and to whom)? – and follow a process to arrive at an accurate and evidenced conclusion about the film. This assignment, more than in the previous projects, requires you to engage with your reader on an entertaining level. While I still expect your paper to be academically stimulating, I want you to privilege reader response concurrently with intelligent thoughts. In this paper, be aware that your intended audience does not have to read your work. And so, it is your responsibility to make your reader want to read it.As with the previous writing projects, you will need to commit primary research. That means watching and reading the film that you are reviewing. It also means doing some secondary research to make sure you are writing within the parameters of a film review. Are you considering the director and his/her other work? Are you familiar with the film’s genre as well as the conventions that govern it? How is the film adhering to or departing from those conventions? Are you using the nomenclature that typifies reviews? Is your approach similar to other reviews on film critic website.
