In the nursing team for this morning’s shift are: Paula who is the RN leading the care of these 6 patients; Enrolled Nurse Maxine; and there is an AIN Jody who is working across the whole 30 bed ward. The team leader is Sarah, a clinical nurse who has worked on the ward for the past 6 years. In your response you need to:
- Critically reflect and appraise the leadership qualities and skills required of the Registered nurse in the clinical scenario.
- Plan and prioritise the care of these patients. Delegate tasks/activities appropriate to the nursing team members role and scope of practice. Provide justification of why these tasks can be delegated and what the supervision responsibilities of the RN when delegating tasks. Link the appropriate NMBA standards to your decision making.
- Review the handover provided for Mr Patrick Morgan in Bed 1. Identify 3 members of the collaborative health care team who should contribute to the care of this patient and describe their role and the role of the RN as a member of the collaborative healthcare team.
