Assignment Task
Aims of analysis –
Say what you want to know from the analysis, the questions you want the data and your analysis to answer. Consider:
Why you have chosen the variables selected for this analysis, why these variables are important. Given reasons. You may optionally support your ideas with citations and references if they support your academic argument. Citations and references are not essential. Your own ideas are essential. Your general knowledge about the world should help with this section.
Relationships (associations) you expect to find between combinations of variables. Give reasons for exploring these associations. What do you expect the results to show, and why? Predicted associations can be expressed as hypotheses you want your analysis to test. Consider: Why should these variables be associated? Say why.
Descriptive statistics –
Conduct descriptive analyses on at least five variables, including three variables that describe demographic characteristics of the sample in ways that could predict associations (other results). Results for this sample description should be presented in prose (words and numbers in sentences), with at least one table and at least one histogram graph, optionally with a normal curve on the histogram. Include the normal curve only if the data are continuous. For a high score there must be a combination of single-variable (one-way) analysis and multiway analysis (at least two-way, with two-way sufficient; three-way and higher order is permitted but not required for a High Distinction). Direct, literal interpretation of the results should be included, without overall conclusions and implications. Superior interpretation will refer to effect size, difference or ratio. Including results from at least one new variable derived from existing variables using SPSS transformations will increase the score for this section.
