This task has three parts. You must complete each part.
Part A
In consultation with your Workplace Supervisor identify one client that you can be an advocate for. You need to advocate on their behalf to your supervisor on at least one issue or support them in doing so themselves.
To do this successfully:
- read the organisation’s policies and procedures relating to advocating for clients
- read (and provide to the client in a meeting) the organisation’s information on client rights and responsibilities – i.e. Charter of Rights and Responsibilities
- read the client’s support plan to get an idea of their goals, interests, needs and preferences
- seek the client’s approval to advocate on their behalf (or to support them in advocating for themselves)
- make a time to meet with the client
- meet with the client to talk about their goals, interests, rights and options available to them (in this meeting you need to provide them with the organisation’s information on client rights and responsibilities and answer any questions they may have about them)
- identify an issue with the client that you can advocate for on their behalf (or support them in advocating for themselves)
