Assignment Task
The objective of this assignment is for you to understand weed biology and various methods to manage weeds. General guidelines:
• Follow the Weed Science journal, format and style. • Select a weed species from any habitat (e.g., crops). • It would be good if you select a problematic weed from your region. • At least 25, of the length (about 750 words) should cover ‘biology’. • Biology should cover seed ecology, se. bank, dormancy, reproduction, phenology, etc. • In the management section, you may give examples of methods used in your region to manage this species. Do not define methods (it was covered in Assignment 1) but provide information on this particular weed species. • The ‘integrated weed management’ section will be very important in this assignment. Structure your assignment according to the following outline (also view marking scheme): • Introduction (importance of this weed; why problematic; losses ($ and/or yield) caused by this weed; need to justify the need for this information) • Biology (cover different aspects under this heading) • Management (cover different methods here) • Conclusion (summary of all your main findings; you may also suggest research gaps here) • References (those used to provide background information). Ensure they are correctly cited; use the journal ‘Weed Science’ as an example of how to do this, as well as an example of how to correctly cite names of species.
